What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are placed over the front surface of teeth to
improve their appearance. They are used to correct a variety of dental problems, including:

  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Stained or discolored teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Worn out teeth

Veneers can be made from a variety of materials, including porcelain, composite resin, and zirconia. The process of getting porcelain veneers typically involves two or three visits to the dentist.

During the first visit, the dentist will examine your teeth and discuss your goals for treatment.
The dentist will then prepare your teeth for the veneers by removing a small amount of
enamel from the front surface of each tooth.

During the second visit, the dentist will place the veneers on your teeth. The veneers are
bonded to your teeth with a special adhesive. The bonding process usually takes about 30
minutes per tooth.

After the veneers are placed, you will need to follow up with your dentist every six months to
ensure that the veneers are in good condition. Veneers can last for many years, but they are
not permanent. They may need to be replaced eventually due to wear and tear.

If you are considering getting veneers, talk to your dentist to see if they are right for you.
